Steve Scrimpshire
When I first got my Mobo, I had to underclock my Kingston ValueRAM to 266MHz or get kernel panics (basically the same with WinXP when I had it). Thanks to the latest BIOS update from the Asus site, I can now run my PC2700 RAM at 333MHz. SoulSe also had this problem with Samsung RAM and his works at 333 now, too. Edit: For some reason, when I first did this, booting straight to init 5 did not work. Had a blank screen, but could ssh into the box. Changing /etc/inittab to 3 in the initdefault section, I was able to get in and startx just fine. After this, I wanted to change it back to 5 for the default so I could see if dmesg said anything weird (the logs had not shown anything), but upon reboot, it now will boot to init 5 just fine and I have no idea why.
