msi geforce and nv driver

Anyone out there have mdk 10.0 (2.6.3) and an msi fx5700 based board to work (and a flat panel monitor .. that could be the issue as well)? I need the mdk nv driver since the nvidia driver (which does work) does not give access to the video in, apparently, and I'd like to get xawtv, e.t.c. working.

I previously had an asus fx5200 based board and identical hw, and all was fine.

What happens, is when I load X, it all seems fine, but the monitor is bank ... no errors in the XF86Config.0.log. Now maybe it's the monitor setup ... I have a dell flat panel and I use the d-sub (vga) input as opposed to the dvi input, and the corresponding output from the msi card). Anyone ever had this issue I'd appreciate some pointers .. thanks

Well when you say nvidia, are you referring to the closed source from the company itself ? I have installed 6111 successfully. But from what I understand, it does not give access to the video-in feature (which seems to be why none of the xawtv derivatives work). I would like to install the nv driver that comes bundled with mdk10.0 ... I used that driver earlier with an asus card and got xawtv to work fine. That'sthe one that gives the blank screen.

jaraeez is correct. you need to change the driver entry under "devices" in the xf86config-4 file. also, to expand on what jaraeez said, there's another option you should add there in addition to the driver entry. make the "devices" section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file look like this (changes in red)..........

Section "Device"

Identifier "device1"

Driver "nvidia"

Option "DPMS"

Option "NvAGP" "3"

EndSection

nvidia will tell xfree to use the Nvidia drivers you installed. nv tells it to use the MDK stock drivers. NvAGP 3 will tell it to try to use kernel AGP support first, then Nvidia AGP if it's not compiled into the kernel (it will be, though ;) )

restart X or reboot for changes to take effect.
