I am proud to annouce that after 2 weeks of trying to network my Linksys WPC11 ver. 4 card, I have finally done it, and learned a lot in the process! :headbang:

I am a total linux newbie, and my intentions of this posting is to hopefully help other people trying to network this notorious card. This is how I did it, as with all the posts about this card, it may not work for everyone.

TO INSTALL DRIVER & NDISWRAPPER FOR WPC11 VER. 4

1. I created a link:

(in console as root) ln -s /usr/src/KERNAL VERSION /lib/modules/KERNAL VERSION/build

2. I then downloaded ndiswrapper 9 from RPM search

(I did not use the ndiswrapper that came with mandrake 10.1 ce, as everyone says there are problems with it

3. once I downloaded it, it installed in RPM manager

4. I downloaded the WINDOWS XP drivers. They are RTL8180

5. I then extracted the drivers, to a folder i made in /home/, called RTL8180

6. I opened a console as root

7. typed "ndiswrapper"

8. ndiswrapper -i /home/RTL8180/NET8180.INF

9. ndiswrapper -l

MY CARD WAS FOUND!!!!

should say ndiswrapper installed net8180 hardware present

10. take the card out

11. ndiswrapper -m

12. modprobe ndiswrapper

13. put the card back in...type iwconfig, and should show the info about the card in wlan

14. All I did then was configure the card in the contol center...and I am surfing w/out wire!!!!

These instructions are again how I did it, it may be different for other people. There are a lot of instructions on how to use ndiswrapper, and install the drivers.

I hope this helps...Now all I have to do is network my laptop to my desktop, which is still XP...ON TO THE NEXT CHALLENGE!
