Not booting into graphical interface

Don't know why, but this evening I've noticed that PC isn't booting into graphical interface.

I get to a screen where i have to input username and pswd and then the command startx.

When I logout I then get to a user command line, in which I have to [su] shutdown -r now (or shutdown -h now)

How do I get back to a graphical boot up/shut down.

In MCC

Boot theme is set at graphical

Bootlaoder is LILO with graphical menu

Monitor is recognised

screen res is set at 1024x768

Any ideas, any thoughts why this might have occured anyway - I've not been amending any settings.

EDIT: MCC>AUTOLOGIN>launch the graphical environment when your system starts

This is very first time I've been in here. Still no idea why I lost X in the first place.
