Mandrake 7.0 Network [SOLVED]

Using what I could find... Mandrake 7.0...

I have a (cable modem) connected to a... (hub/switch1) ... connected to

(eth0 Linux Box eth1) ... (hub/switch2)->( 5 Windows Computers).

The Linux box has 2 NIC's that appear to be configured correctly.

I get a good response using ifconfig.

If I connect a PC to switch1, and another PC to switch2 with the Linux Box between them, I can log onto the Linux box and ping in both directions and receive a good reply.

I even have Internet access while using the Linux Box.

I have Internet access while using a PC connected to switch1.

I can use the PC connected to switch1 to ping the PC connected to switch2 with good results.

I can use the PC connected to switch2 to ping the PC on the other side of the Linux Box and get good results.

I can use the PC connected to switch2 to ping the IP address of google.com and get good results.

... So everything works EXCEPT... I cannot use the browser on a PC connected to switch2 to surf the internet.

I can Ping anything out on the Internet and ping returns a good reply, It's just the Browser... when it starts up has google.com for the home page and I get the cannot locate server error page.

I have read the howto's on Networking, DNS, ethernet card configuration, Gateway Setup, IP Masq-ing, etc...

I am at a loss.

Might anyone have any ideas?

:cheesy:

Do you have the Windows box on auto-config for the ethernet?

If you do then your DNS info isn't propagating to the Windows box correctly.

Although I'm wondering why you have the cable modem connected to a switch and then to the Linux box. Can you not connect it directly to the computer?

My system is similar - ADSL router to Linux Box to 8 port switch

The Windows PC's are manually set for IP address.

The network here requires that the first switch/hub provide

unaltered, unfiltered internet access to management PC's as well as

internet access/network access to the remaining computer labs.

This is why the cable modem feeds directly into the first switch.

From this switch, it feeds directly into the linux box for packet filtering to the Student computer labs.

The output from the linux box will feed the second switch for filtered

distribution to the computer labs.

OK, I moved it, and still no internet access.

NOw I have:

|Switch1->DistributionPanel1

CableModem->Router->|LinuxBox-> Switch2-> Computerlab

|Switch2

I have been watching the packets as I go.

I have MASQ'ing from the computer lab and it is functioning.

I can use a PC in the lab to ping an internet "IP address" but not

by the domain name... "google.com".

I'm wondering what I missed... ?

Thank you for Responding!
