MadHattr
Hey I just finished installing mandrake 10.1 community edition. Everything is working perfectly. My ownly problem is i want to get the 3d accelerated driver for my ATI mobility 9600? Is there any easy way to do this in mandrake. Ive never installed ati drivers before, only nvidia ones. Any help would be greatful, thanks!
coverup
The procedure described on the ATI website is quite straightforward and works okay. Only problem I had was with compiling the fireglcontrol utility. You will have to change a switch in the makefile, if you want to compile it. Most likely you will get a working 3d, though maybe not as fast as you might expect. Say, in Knoppix 3.3 with standard radeon driver, my 9000 Mobility card runs glxgears at 1800 FPS, with Mandrake's version of ATI driver I had only 1300 FPS, with the driver from ATI, I have only 800 FPS when using internal agpgart module, and 700 FPS when using external agpgart module. If it were a game station I would be very upset :-), but on the other hand, I have access to a broader range of driver's options with ATI's drivers, than I had had with Mandrake's own version from Mandrakeclub. After you install the driver, run fglrxconfig, this will configure a basic XF86Config-4 file, which you can later tweak.
