setting up a web server

well, you have to check with your ISP if they allow such a thing. One more thing, check how fast is the DSL upload speed 'cause there are times that it's way too slow to be a good server.

And if you want to set up a website, you'll be wanting to know more about Apache. www.apache.org <---is a good place to start.

Webmin is a good tool for configuring servers, it's included in the Mandrake CDs (last time I checked)

Hope this helps

Arthur is right,

you should read up a bit before doing this becuase it requires a bit of thought/knowledge regarding security as well.

Installing apache is easy with URPMI (See FAQ's) but then you need some content and stuff so it would be good to get some ideas and discuss those :D

Welcome to MUB btw...

Just install MDK10 with all networking / server options and it should install all the apps you need. You'll want a good router as well that routes the info from your DNS (IP address to the world) to your local IP (192.168.0.1 for example). Not sure if you're running mySql with anything on your site, but that's an easy config too. I set up a new MDK10 server for my company's site a couple weeks ago, easiest config ever using MySQL, PHP, Perl and some ASP.

Make sure to also direct your domain to your IP address (if you have a static address...great. If not...don't have your own server. Your IP will always change and your site will never work, as the IP address won't be the same)

What additions and scripts is your website using? This will determine what you need to config.

please keep in mind that on the internet, writing in all caps is considered yelling - and often, therefore, seen as rude. thanks ;)
