samael26
Hello fine people! I'm nearly a newbie, but I succeeded in setting up nearly everything I needed. One problem remains, though : I've got Mandrake 10.0 Official download on my Asus pc, an Olitec SX500 adsl modem-router, which works fine on my Windows machine (a DEll 2400) I can get connected using "dhclient eth0", but I can only get Google, that means each time I click on an hyperlink, it goes on searching forever, nothing appears.. Funny thing is I can get connected to some FTP servers and xchat alse works.. I'm really confused.. By the way my Internet provider is AOL. Anybody who could give me a tip ? arthurking
Can you ping any other computer on the net. eg. your ISP or yahoo.com or something. ie. do ping yahoo.com in a console. what browser(s) are you using? etc.
samael26
Yes I can ping other computers such as yahoo. I use Mozilla, I get the same thing with Konqueror. In another forum, a person told me I should get the nameserver of my ISP by typing host ns1 and 2, but I got nothing clear out of it. AOL is my ISP and it returned : name server failed and an address : 127.0.0.1 According to this person, I then Had to change my current nameserver IP (127.0.0.1) by the new one found thanks to host ns something. It failed of course I tried with my modem router address, to no avail.. Any new idea ? Thanks a lot for trying to help me, though ! :D [edited by spinynorman]
richardwest
There seems to be a problem with the new kernels and some routers. Try adding net.ipv4.tcp_default_win_scale=0 to /etc/sysctl.conf Did the trick for me.
samael26
Hi Richard, Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I followed it but nothing changed. Did you just add this line or did you modify the existing one beginning with "net.ipv4.tcp_ ..." Does the line "net.ip_dynaddr=..." shows 0 (disabled) or 1 ? In my case it shows "0" By the way what make is your modem-router ? THanks for having taken time to answer !
richardwest
I just added the line and then restarted the network. It's worked for me on all 2.6.8 kernels I tried from cooker and did the trick just fine on Gentoo which is what I'm using now. All I could get before was Google and my bank's site. "net.ip_dynaddr=..." is hashed out on this setup I've got a USR 9003 modem/router. Hope you get it sorted.
