kernel version, revision, patch etc..

Hello

 

I'm new to Linux and chose Mandrake pretty much by accident, but I think I came to right option.

 

I think I somewhere saw a post or an article saying that when Mdk kernel patch-level x.y.z-P (or is it a 'revision'?) rises enough, it will be the same as rising the x.y.Z-p with some more generic kernels. Could someone say if this is true or if I've completely lost my bearings?

 

I'm fighting to get wlan to work and I'm afraid I need to update kernel. I wouldn't want to end up in a situation where I'm loosing some nice Mdk-feature when going to newer generic kernel.
