devries
Uninstall is not neccesary, just delete the .gaim (hidden .gaim folder) in you $HOME. (in these hidden folders all user settings are stored). But I'm sure there must be a better way. :(
Lowe
I just deleted that and it's still in japanese.
devries
Guess it's not a gaim problem then. Are you using KDE or GNOME? If it's KDE do you have any other gtk apps that are in Japanese? Then it might be a GNOME problem.
paleo
Do you use any japanese on your system? try starting gaim from a terminal window like this: env LC_ALL=en_US gaim if this works, there is probably a problem with your /etc/sysconfig/i18n or ~/.i18n (the latter takes precedence). The file(s) have entries like LC_MESSAGES=en_US you might have some lines set to something like: LC_*=ja_JP change such lines and log in again and see if gaim starts in english. Lowe
I managed to fix it, well not really fix it. I have a lot of Jpop music on my system and it doesn't show up because it's tagged in japanese so i thought if i installed the japanese language pack it would show my files, but it never did. So i just uninstalled the japanese language pack and gaim went back to english.

Lowe
Well to be honest it's just a case of messing with your /home/username/i18n FIle. mines looks like this. LANGUAGE=en_GB.UTF-8 GTK_IM_MODULE=uim-anthy LC_ADDRESS=en_GB LC_COLLATE=ja_JP.UTF-8 XIM=uim-anthy LC_NAME=en_GB LC_NUMERIC=en_GB LC_MEASUREMENT=en_GB LC_TIME=ja_JP.UTF-8 LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_GB LC_MESSAGES=ja_JP.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8 LC_TELEPHONE=en_GB ENC=eucj LC_MONETARY=en_GB XIM_PROGRAM=uim-xim LC_PAPER=en_GB XMODIFIERS="@im=uim-anthy" If you have any other problems just keep messing around with it, like i did.
