axel_2078
Since this morning, if I try to install software or updates via URPMI, I just get a message that says "urpmi database locked". Why is this?
devries
Probably because you have somewhere the MCC/software or a console open. :) Look around on your desktops

ramfree17
a session probably left a lock. its named /var/lib/lock<something.. try running it in a terminal and you will see the filename. rename or delete it and start urpmi again. ciao! ramfree17
will a reboot remove the lock? if i remember it right it wont because its a regular file, and its not even in /tmp (in case you set autmatic cleanup of /tmp at every boot). ciao! kmc77
Yes, it will remove the lock. When I started with MDK, that's the only way I could figure out.
Gowator
It will remove the lock if and only if its locked becuase say urpmi has crashed or is runing and you cant see it... it just removes it by peacfully killing (kill -5) the process ... however if the process died and left it it wont work... its also a bad habit to get into becuase you never know WHY it worked... much better to look for the process with a ps -ef or ps -aux and then kill it and if needed remove the lock file!
