axel_2078
What program do you guys use to rip audio CDs into mp3 format? I'm guessing K3b can't do that?
devries
Kaudiocreator. But you should really start ripping to ogg. It's so much better :D
Lowe
Or even better rip in flac.
Padma
yeah. I use Kaudiocreator, ripping to ogg. (It *can* rip to mp3, but why? ;) ) I just built a music CD for my son, after his sister tried 3 times on her WinXP box. All the tracks from #4 on were screwed by her system. I ripped with Kaudiocreator, then made the CD with K3B, and everything was perfect! :D
capnkirby
Been using grip, it's served my needs thus far.... Capn

kenton
These programs rip damn slow. The best I got was like 5x. With the same CD reader (LiteOn 52x CDRW) in Windows using MMJB I can rip at like 30x, wtf?
DragonMage
Not a bug, it's a feature. These program uses cdparanoia to rip the cds. As with the name, cdparanoia checks and rechecks the rip so that the result is very very good. If you disable paranoia, I think the ripping speed would be faster. axel_2078
Where can I get grip or Kaudiocreator?
devries
They come with Mandrake. So do urpmi <program name>. If you want to install software in Mandrake always use urpmi. Good luck

Gowator
Kaudiocreator. But you should really start ripping to ogg. It's so much better :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or even better rip in flac. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yeah. I use Kaudiocreator, ripping to ogg. (It *can* rip to mp3, but why? ;) ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So my in car MP3 player, and handheld MP3 do ogg or flac?? Come-on guys this isn't particualrly helpful advice.... To rip to MP3 you need a codec from plf... blandeenc seems to have dissapeared but LAME is still there
devries
When you buy a new car you should make sure the stero can play ogg. If everyone should do that the world would be a better place :D. Anyway, Gowater is right. You need to install Kaudiocreator to rip and Lame to let Kaudiocreator rip to mp3. Good luck
axel_2078
So I guess to install it I do urpmi Lame?
devries
Yes that's it. (and you need PLF as one of your urpmi repositories)
