Guest vindicated
Ok im tryin to make a linux media tivo with myth tv my card and all is setup but when i go to install myth its says u need to install mythbackend try to install that and it says install libmp3.so.0 or Lame this is the first of my problems. I look all around and try to install one of the rpms but it doesnt work it just shuts all the install parts down right in middle and says bad signiture. I decided to just install the tar.gz one this is where my problem comes in. I looked at all the guides and follow them to the t but when i put in tar zxfw /home/blah/lame-3.96.1.tar.gz it just closes screen and does nothing. I was reading a guide thinkin i was doing it wrong and was tryin to use the pwd command but it did the same thing just closed command screen and nothing. I was wondering is this somthing i am doing wrong or was my install bad it had its errors installing but i did a fresh install its mandrake 10 no dual booting everything is working but i cant get any command commands to work. Steve Scrimpshire
It's tar zxwf /home/blah/lame-3.96.1.tar.gz The 'f' has to be last, as far as I know. You may find the 'w' option tedious and do away with it. I like tar zxvf /home/blah/lame-3.96.1.tar.gz
devries
Install mythtv with urpmi. (I think it's in PLF). Good luck.
Guest vindicated
OK i think i got as far as extracting the folder as there is a folder named lame >>>>>> but when i go to use the cd lame-3.96.1/ it says cannot run specied path or somthin like that. But i got past that i go to file and go shell script ./configure it gets going and then says.configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check See `config.log' for more details. What is that all about. Oh and devries what are u tlaking bout urpmi im a linux noob so i dont know. IF it contains all needed files for myth tv and can be easily installed then hook me up with a link. Oh one more thing about the comand thing my problem was i was using the command area not the built in shell script that mandrake 10 have makes it much easier. Hmmm thouhgt i got lib installed right but i dont know it stil isnt installing right still syas the lib/cpp sanity blah blah i have tried diff sources but still no. devries
Use this link ( http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ ) to add PLF and Contrib. The type urpmi mythtv. Like Spiedra said, there is more information in the FAQs. Good luck

Is there any way to test if it worked. OH yea i think u want me to put mythtv into the install packages area thing isnt that what urpmi does is give more sources to that i dont know cuase im a noob. Ok retract that i read and found how to find packages but how do i know which source has it the ones i used didnt have it it says package not found. Does anyone know if there is one that has myth tv cause it would be much loved. I did find freevo and im going to try it for awhile till i can get mythtv working any sugestions i dont think there is any urpmi of myth i tryed adding more sources but its was a no go said alrdy exists. spiedra
It sounds like the the source didn't add. It may be temporaily unavailable so you may have to go through a couple of ftp sources to find a working one. Once it's added as root type: urpmi mythtv And it should be in your list and install. You don't have to search in the sources to find it. With that command, it will scan your sources for a match, then once found it will install. william
Go to /usr/bin folder and do a search in order to see if any binary name close to mythtv is there. another option is to type in terminal: locate mythtv, if you get a message saying that data base is out of date, type updatedb as root and retype the locate command. One more option would be to go to mcc>software>uninstall, type mythtv and see if there's a path to the binary file. Have you been here: http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythInstall I've never tried mythtv, but in MHO you should insist a bit more before giving up and trying another distro. Good luck. PS: and actually it was already installed before you have downgraded it. Edited August 28, 2004 by william

If you're not sure how to start Mythtv, use <tab-complete>. Type the first 1/2 letter of a programname and then hit tab. It will give you list of programnames to choose from. Or look in the mandrake (start)-menu, probably under multimedia. Good luck.
