Sagittarius
If you want to try to transform an old PC into an X terminal and use it on your fast brand new Mandrakelinux system, you could give a try to this. 1.- on the fast system: modify /usr/share/config/kdm in the section [Xdmcp] with Enable=true We'll admit your fast system has an ip: 192.168.0.1 2.- on the old PC (Terminal X) equipped with no drives but CDROM - insert a Knoppix live CD - F2 : knoppix lang=your language 2 (or knoppix26 noscsi lang=fr 2) - ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.10 (or another one) - su knoppix - X -query 192.168.0.1 and kdm appears on the old PC ! My 2c tip. :) Sagittarius If your PC is very old and cannot boot from CD then, if you have a floppy unit, you could use smart boot manager: http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/about.html 3.- To obtain on the old pc the fonts in OOo that are installed on the fast Mandrakelinux machine make a symlink /home/~/.openoffice/usr/fonts -> /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont/ttf Of course, it is just to have a try.
