zero0w
Just read the OSNews article today: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=7852 I have tried the MainActor v5 Demo (with watermark) on Linux. I think it's pretty cool stuff. You can get the demo and try it.
devries
I tried it for a few hours and in my opinion it isn't worth the E170. First it took me half an hour to discover that it doesn't like long filenames. Freevo saves a program like this: 07-29_22:50_Kuifje_-_.mpeg and mainactor doesn't like that. You have to rename the file to whatever.mpeg for it to load. Second, I don't have a soundcard that does hardware mixing. Mactor is having problems with that. Movies in the preview window wouldn't play. I had to start it with artsdsp mactor for it to work. People say OSS has difficulty coming up with an intuitive UI but Mainactor proofs commercial software finds it just as hard. PS: and why does it have to be so ugly. zero0w
On the contrary I like the feel of GUI, guess it's a matter of taste. My SB Live! supports hardware mixing so I don't have this problem.
