Guest winnie Posted July 22, 2004 Report Share Posted July 22, 2004 Since loading Mk10.0 community, each time Konqueror tries to access a new URL it gets a broken connection. A re-try is always successful - as are further accesses to the URL and all "children" of the URL. But follow a link to a new URL, then you are going to get a broken link message. This problem affects all applications, including mail and FTP . . . it is not related to Konqueror. Internet access using pppoe through a DSL modem. /etc/resolv.conf has proper nameserver stuff. streeter Posted July 22, 2004 Report Share Posted July 22, 2004 What error messages do you get from the various applications? Have you checked the timeouts in the KDE configuration stuff? (start menu->system->configuration->KDE->network->preferences) Mine are: Socket Read - 15 s Proxy Connect - 10 s Server Connect - 20 s Server Response - 600 s These are the defaults. Don't know if changing them will make any difference - what sort of time do you have to wait when you get a timeout? Have you tried using an alternate nameserver, from another ISP? Get the address from their website and put it at the very top of /etc/resolv.conf. Do you have to use any sort of proxy at your ISP? If this was my PC, I would run a packet sniffer to see exactly what was going on - if you can understand it, try installing/running ethereal and browse to a site to see what output you get. pmpatrick Posted July 25, 2004 Report Share Posted July 25, 2004 Try adding this line to /etc/modprobe.conf: alias net-pf-10 off Reboot for the new settings to take effect.
