Guest ivanwillsau
Hi I am using Mandrake 10 Official with the language set to english. I am trying to access files on a Windows NT 4 Server with a β (beta) character in its name but I always get cannot stat file or similar error message. The problem does not appear to be samba as I cannot create a file with a β from with in linux. Does any one have any suggestion on what the problem may be? I under stood linux to be good at unicode but no application i tried seems to be able to create files with unicode characters. Thanks Ivan
iphitus
Try putting a backslash "\" in front of the offending character
Guest ivanwillsau
I have tried a back slash inparticular \3371 for beta which is what the error message contains but that does not help.
Cannonfodder
Depending on what you are trying to do with the file, try using the tab feature to allow Linux to auto-complete the file name.. e.g. vi /etc/lilo<hit tab here> should autocomplete to lilo.conf or display multiple matches.. Guest ivanwillsau
Using the tab feature is how I got the \3371 for the beta character. What I am trying to acheive is to read a file with the unicode character in it's name but I cannot even cat the file.
