SK_pt Posted July 6, 2004 Report Share Posted July 6, 2004 RAM (Mo) : 512MB DDR- CPU : Athlon XP-M - 2600+ Connection : ADSL-Ethernet Hard disk : Toshi - 60Gb CD / DVD ROM : Ricoh Video card : Mobility Radeon 9600 - 64MB DDR-R Sound card : AC from KT 400(A) Network : Ethernet KT400(A) SCSI : 1 - none MDK10 XP-Home on dual boot I only can login with devfs=nomount, so when i'm inside the thing i cannot access DVD+RW/CDRW combo drive, i cannot access the embutted card reader (smartmedia, sd, stick, etc.). And probably many more devices I probably cannot access but still haven't checked. This is the ONLY way I can access to login on my laptop, is there a way i can solve this? illogic-al Posted July 6, 2004 Report Share Posted July 6, 2004 open up drakxservices as root and turn off harddrake. That will stop the checking for new hardware. Then try with devfs=mount again. SK_pt Posted July 6, 2004 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2004 Hi illogic-al, I putted Harddrake off, and now I don't get the "Checking for new hardwarw" never, I did boot with #linux udev=mount But now i cannot login with my user account, i put the login and the password, i click on Login, it passes as the login is right, but after that nothing else happens, i just keep with the background image of MDK10 and stay there a long time, the splash screen never appears, i waited 15 mintues and nothing... In the same situation, I do can go further after the login as root in the KDE even waiting 2 minutes in the splash screen at the zone of "Initializing system services", but after the spalsh screen i stay with the red background a lot of time other 15 minutes and nothing happens. I also tryed boot with #linux devfs=mount, and happens all exactly as with udev Tryed again with devfs=nomount, and that way i could login and get inside, but again, no DVD/CD, no usb devices etc.... thanx, SK Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The reason that some of your DVD-RW doesn't work is related to these: Jul 5 17:46:33 Vigor11 kernel: hdc: lost interrupt Jul 5 17:46:33 Vigor11 kernel: hdc: cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused (ireason = 0x01) It means that the CD burning software is trying to use a SCSI interface and the IDE-SCSI emulator module isn't loaded. And even if it were, it may not work right if your hard drive and burner are on the same IDE chain due to contention. Most burning software are made up of two parts -- a GUI (like B3K) which operates through a command line utility (like cdrecord). It's the command line utility which is limited to using SCSI as the Linux IDE implementation stinks (or so says the cdrecord author Jörg Schilling, whose ported it to many operating systems). The cdrecord project has changed its name to cdrtools and can be found on freshmeat.net. Mine occur when I logout without rebooting and try logging back in -- the KDE startup process hangs about half way through and I have to kill the sound subsystem ("arts") to get the KDE environment to finish starting. Of course, the sound system is messed up, but I can get in without rebooting. After a reboot, first login always works -- no problem. Only second login fails. Go figure.
