Jet2k5
Thanks liquid Zoo, yeah I'm use to if the computer is acting weird just restart and it most of the time the problem with be solved, same thing when the computer started to lag. Umm for the xine it sounds great, so is this what I should do? # urpmi xine is that all? If so Im going to this right now................ And this is what I get. # urpmi xine The following packages contain xine: gxine libxine1 libxine1-devel oxine xine-aa xine-arts xine-dxr3 xine-esd xine-faad xine-flac xine-gnomevfs xine-plugins xine-ui xine-ui-aa xine-ui-fb xine-vcdx xine-win32 xinetd xinetd-ipv6 xinetd-simple-services Hmmm. What does this mean? How do I install it then? Sorry about the last post but this is what the erro message was when I clicked on the VideoCD dropdown menu thing Totem could not play this media (Video CD) although a plugin is present to handle it. You might want to check that a disc is present in the drive and that it is correctly configured.. How can I give you guys like the name of everything that I have installed on my laptop? Usually in windows I would type something " dxdiag " and it will give me all that information. Is there a command like that for Linux? If so I wan't to give you guys all the detail about my computer, sorry I didn't do this from the beginning. -Luis Edited July 1, 2004 by Luis101
tyme
that's a list of all of the packages that contain the word "xine". xine is a backend, and you need a frontend to control it. if you're using GNOME, the I suggest gxine, install it with: urpmi gxine and it will install all the dependencies. if you are using KDE, I belief mandrake supplies kaffeine, so: urpmi kaffeine again, this will install all the necessary files. liquidzoo
Easiest way (and probably the way you want to go), is to type urpmi xine -a That will install all of them. The only ones you will really need are the ones that are listed in the link I gave you a few posts back.
Jet2k5
Ok so let me get this right, do you want me to install one of the two? Posted on Jul 1 2004, 02:29 AM that's a list of all of the packages that contain the word "xine". xine is a backend, and you need a frontend to control it. if you're using GNOME, the I suggest gxine, install it with: CODE urpmi gxine and it will install all the dependencies. if you are using KDE, I belief mandrake supplies kaffeine, so: CODE urpmi kaffeine again, this will install all the necessary files. Ok I have KDE so I should instal the Kaffeine. Then after I do that do you want me to install, or run this command you posted, Posted on Jul 1 2004, 02:31 AM Easiest way (and probably the way you want to go), is to type CODE urpmi xine -a I just ran the command ^. And this is what it returned, # urpmi xine -a One of the following packages is needed: 1- glibc-devel-2.3.3-10mdk.i586 2- uClibc-devel-0.9.21-3mdk.i586 What is your choice? (1-2) Which one do I choose, also I will just wait to see if you did want me to install one of the gxine or kaffeine first. I just got thrown of by the (and probably the way you want to go). I just got back from baseball I practice for about 4 hours, so forgive me if I'm a little slow. -Luis
liquidzoo
The normal xine interface (at least the one I use) is xine-ui Of those 2 options, you probably want the first; though it may install both. urpmi is kinda like that.

Jet2k5
It works!!! Thanks a bunch Liquid, hey how do you guys know all this stuff? I mean is this stuff that one can look up on the internet? Or do you guys just know because when you guys first started you guys had some of the same issues? Thanks a bunch! Hey also how can I look up all the hardware, like you the name and stuff like you have for your laptop, the specs, I don't really remember them. -Luis
liquidzoo
The 'error' that you got is nothing serious. If you really want that package installed, type: urpmf librte-0.4.so.0 and install the RPM that it will give you. Other than that, it looks to me like everything installed just fine. Gowator
luis we learned just like you are.... I wrecked a few installs on the way and repaired them.... but other than that jujst try reading it and working out what it might mean,... its a different paradigm to windows but your managing fine... unless you have some serious reason why you need to be a linux expert by the end of the month just chill and relax...your doin fine you can always reinstall, its only 20-30 mins :D Use the copy paste to document what you do then if something goes FUBAR you have documentaiton.... (like your already doing) I tend to keep a config.txt file where i paste any changes I make or packages and just save them...
Jet2k5
Yeah thats what I have too. I have or I think I sitll might have a file of what I do, Incase when I do re-install linux, I already know what to do. So far I don't have any more problems so far. Yesterday was kind of weird my computers fan would not stop running. Like it was processing something that just kept on running and running. I just shutdown the computer. Besides that everything is running smooth just a little problem with the xscreensaver thing but someone has already started another topic about it so I'm watching it closely. Thanks. -Luis
