Guest zebrektor
I have a Pentium II 400MHz System with 256MB RAM. I was using Mandrake Linux 9 (Dolphin) with kernel 2.4... on my system. I downloaded the ISO images from Mandrake 10. MD5 checksum is OK for all three CD's. I' am performing a new installation (not an upgrade). After pressing enter in the first screen. The installer detects USB devices on my PC. After that it tries to access the files on my CDRom (Mitsumi fx320s) in order to install them into the memory. At that point the system hangs. And in the log files I can read the message Kernel Panic. Is there anybody who can help me on that? Thanx
Ixthusdan
What are the usb devices, and can you install without them being connected? Mandrake runs fine but the installer is a dog. A running system will function fine. Issues with the installer are not the same as a running system.
Guest zebrektor
There aren't any USB devices attached. I thing the installer is detecting the USB ports on the system.
tyme
did you do an md5sum check on the ISO's? did you try re-burning them?
illogic-al
type in expert as an option in the installer which should force it to ask you what to do.
Guest zebrektor
MD5sum check is OK! Expert mode didn't help either. The systems hangs as it tries to load the files into the memort from CD. I tried the same on my notebook it worked. I was able to get the Installer GUI.
Ixthusdan
Maybe a ram problem.
Guest zebrektor
I think that there isn' t a RAM problem. Because I can install and run Mandrake 9 Dolphin edition without problems on the same PC.
Pzatch
Check the cd in a different machine. Maybe you burned it to fast, at to high of a speed. Sometimes that causes trouble. Maybe the cd drive is getting flacky. If your overclocked turn it back down untill the install is finished. At this point in your endevour all I can say is its either a bad burn, bad download or bad hardware.
Guest hoarenet
There is definitely a problem with some CD drives during set-up. I had to swap out my Toshiba for a Hitachi to get round this problem.
