Sarissi
The NEC ND2500A all in one burner is a very nice burner. I do know that my Chaintech 7VJL Deluxe Apogee mobo does not like it at all. However, my Gigabyte GA-7N400-L gets along with it, just fine.
theYinYeti
I've just bought the NEC ND2510 burner. I'm satisfied! Watching a DVD makes absolutely NO NOISE!! (just as if it were powered-off). Using normal CD (not DVD) seem to make the disk spin faster, hence a little noise (not that much), but the drive can easily be made silent again by adjusting speed (hdparm utility). I did not try burning yet. Yves.

Guest penguin7
just a comment. check with hardware database compatibility before buying and installing. save the misery and angst. then be happy when it works. linux works to make us happy. xbob
The database is a good point of reference but hasn't been updated lately, better to check here and possibly check out the web site of the burning app you plan to use (K3B I'll assume) and see if there are any know issues. Linux has gotten far better at identifying burners of all types and it's not nearly as painful as it used to be.
