Guest herbie
What do i need to do to access webmin from elsewhere? I installed it and it works from localhost, but I'd like to access it from other computers at home and in the office. I have apache server up & running, proftp an ssh. I just can't seem to access webmin from home....
Steve Scrimpshire
Go to Webmin Configuration in the main tab and click on IP access control and change what you need there. You will also need to set up your firewall to allow connections to port 10000.
Guest herbie
can that be done command-line thru ssh?
Steve Scrimpshire
Yes. In /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf remove any line that says allow=whatever and then do service webmin restart If you use shorewall as your firewall, you can add a rule for port 10000 in /etc/shorewall/rules Something like: ACCEPT your-ip-address fw tcp 10000 - then service shorewall restart I strongly suggest you do it by specific ip address, but if you are brave, you can change your-ip-address to 'net' (without the quotes). Guest herbie
there is no allow line at all. there is a line denyfile=\.pl$ i don't know enough linux to understand that line... however by adding the line to shorewall i can now get in! Thank you. Maybe you could tell me why i got an error retarting shorewall when i subsituted my IP for 'net'. I'd really rather add an IP range to allow and a couple other IPs than rely solely on the password...
Steve Scrimpshire
Sorry, it should be: ACCEPT net:your-ip-address fw tcp 10000 - there is a linedenyfile=\.pl$ i don't know enough linux to understand that line... I don't know enough about Linux to understand that line. :D Edited June 8, 2004 by Steve Scrimpshire
