Wifi problem with motorola nics

Hello all,

I have purchased two pci wifi cards by Motorola, model WPCI810G. I also purchased a pcmcia WN825G. The problem with pcmcia was my own fault by not remembering my TP 600E only supports 16-bit, and this card is 32-bit. However, my problem with the pci cards is much worse.

I first attempted to put this card into my little compaq deskpro which I have configured as a OpenBSD router/gateway/firewall. The machine simply won't even POST with the card installed. So, I moved to my MDK 9.1 server. It booted fine, but in MCC, it finds a "ETHERNET DEVICE" but cannot seem to identify it any further. Does anybody know if this card simply doesn't work with linux yet? Is anybody familiar with a place to check on wifi card compatability? Most sites I have found aren't that good.

can be interesting:

http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/

for 802.11g cards based on prism chipset:

http://prism54.org/

the cards they support: http://prism54.org/supported_cards.php

Maybe these can help you, but it would be better if you would now teh cipset teh card is based on I THINK.

I've looked arounf some and it seems ..; it uses the following chipset ...:

Card: Motorola WPCI810G b/g PCI Card

Chipset: Broadcom BCM 4306/2050

seems they supprot linux ... don't know how far the support goes, but maybe it's indeed in the kernel already?

Thanks a lot for that help. I'm strongly considering moving to another card anyway since I simply cannot get my firewall server to boot with the thing in it. I cannot imagine why it is doing that, but it won't do me mch good this way..

Does anybody know a good site to check on card compatability with nix? I can get a narrow window of cards at a beneficial price, and would like to compare that list with a good site.

I have a problem with that card too. It locks up the computer when loading Gnome, sends KMD back to login but IceVM loads but can't run Konqueror. The error is:

-----

Could not read network connection list.

/home/username/.DCOPserver_localhost_0

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!

-----

I tried running "dcopserver" and it came up with a bunch of errors (Authentication Rejected/error in locking authentication file). Thats after i cmod the folder to 777 because I got another error (something like no permission).

I've gone through the readme and attempted to install those broadcom (5700) drivers but it says I don't have permission or the folders aren't there even when I'm at root and the folder's at 777.

When trying to install the drivers from the Control Center config it sends me into a loop of picking the driver over and over again. The Control Center hardware list displays the right info about the card though (Broadcom, PCI, 2:7:0, BCM94306 802.11g NIC).

Is the only option to buy a new card or get another OS?

Thanks.

I have a Motorola 802.11g card, and it works GREAT with the Linuxant software. It's $20, but it's the best $20 you can spend for not having to mess around with drivers and such. You can try it for 30 days free.
