Surfing is so slow!!!

Hi,

I've just installed Mandrake 10 OE. Everything is all right!

But i noticed that surfing is very slow! When i'm downloading something, that goes at high speed but web sites come very slowly!

How does it come?

I've a PCI network card that runs with 8139too module and i go on the internet trought an ADSL router.

And somewhere is Mandrake control center, it says that internet connection is LAN and status is DISCONNECTED but my network is up!!!

And in gentoo, surfing is normal...

What can i do to speed up surfing?

Thanks!

I don't remember where I saw this but it helped me.

In your /etc/modules.conf file add the line:

alias net-pf-10 off

This basically turns off IPv6, from what I understand and it helped my name resolution speed.

Hope this helps :P

Yeah, I had forgot about that one. Which is more likely your problem. I had read that some place as well.

Hi

I've tried... Here is my modules.conf :

probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd

alias sound-slot-1 snd-via82xx

above snd-via82xx snd-pcm-oss

alias eth0 8139too

alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx

alias net-pf-10 off

But it doesn't changed anything...

Guest Ozar

I was having the exact same problem.

Inserting the above-mentioned code into modprobe.conf didn't help at all but a new networking card fixed the problem.

What's weird is that the old card worked fine in Windows and Mandrake 9.2, but not in MD10.
