Steve Scrimpshire
I had this problem on my desktop with Mandrakelinux release 10.1 (Cooker) for i586 (not sure when the last time I updated was). Anyway, it turned out that for some stupid reason the initscripts have shorewall set to start before the network, which of course won't work. So, I had to rename the symlinks in /etc/rc*.d for shorewall and iptables to a number higher than the network symlink. Ex: S10network so: mv S03iptables S15iptables && mv S03shorewall S15shorewall
