Today...

I saw the laptop of one of my uni lecturures... its running Fedora 1, but thats not what I'm asking :P

The lady in question appeared to be doing something really rather clever - whilst using a rather large screen res to display her desktop, she was able to click on a open document, and it zoomed into a full screen depiction of the document.

This was... well... impressive... Now does ANYONE have ANY idea WHAT she could have been using? Please?

ok, in firefox you can do:

View -> Fullscreen (or F11) to make it take up the entire screen (accept a nice bar at the top).

i'll have to check OOo when I get home.

hmm... not quite what I meant.

The document was already open, and I could see the text, but when it was clicked on, it sorta "zoomed" - imagine cartoon zoom lines also... and took up the entire desktop. When she clicked off it, it sorta "zoomed-out" (cue cartoon zoom lines again..) and the entire desktop was again available..

I know that OSX has a similar feature but not sure what it is called. It allows you to see all of the open apps/docs slightly larger than icons, and when you click on one, it "zooms" into the foreground. The cartoon zoom lines is an acurate depiction.

If anyone does know how to make this work with KDE, I would also love to know.

You can do this using Gnome and Abiword. Abiword has the fullscreen option under the... view menu AFAIK and if you turn it on for a document it stays there.

In Gnome Abiword is able to go fullscreen over the taskbars, but with KDE it won't.

* I did this with Gnome 2.2 and an earlier Abiword, so can't guarantee it with newer versions of either.

Hi there,

sounds like she was running Expocity (for Metacity):

http://www.pycage.de/software_expocity.html

It's a free version of Apple's Exposé or rather, a re-implementation of the principles. I don't run Metacity, but might be worth a shot at. Click the "Exposé" link on that page to get some screenshots and movies of Exposé on MacOS.
