mtweidmann
Installed Helix player sound and video play perfectly, but the GUI is weird the icons and menu don't display.
fred_the_fish
Hmm... Both worked fine for me in Fedora2, not tried yet in mandrake. Damn site faster than RealPlayer8 with the 9plugin. Very nice, fast, etc. One bug tho - the "last used" quick menu crashes.
mtweidmann
I tried to download the latest version of the Helix Player but all the download links seem to be broken. Is it working for everyone else? https://player.helixcommunity.org/2004/downloads/
lawsonrc
SUCCESS!! I had a ton of trouble trying to install RealPlayer10Alpha since I didn't know what I was doing. First I fiddled around trying to uninstall Realplayer 8 (didn't have a clue, but did it somehow...don't remember). Then when I downloaded the Installer (i.e. the .bin file), yesterday I tried the chmod x-thingy, but kept getting back the error message "too few arguments..." (not knowing what that was and what I was supposed to do). Today I somehow did the chmod-thingy several times and then it worked (I guess I fiddled around in the root directory and deleted something else before I ran the command again.) Then I showed in my home "View Hidden Files" and the .realplayerrc file was there! Then, as user, I did "whereis realplay" and it showed up in /usr/bin/realplay. When there I hovered the mouse over it (since it showed the symlink arrow) and it told me it was in /usr/local/Realplayer/realplay. I clicked on it, and the version 10 Alpha came up. I went to www.cbs.com and played some of the videos of different shows (Survivor, etc) and all of them worked beautifully and perfectly...NO BUGS! YEAH! Finally as a non-geek I was able to do something by myself. I hope I can remember what I did (or successfully fumble through it again) on my laptop. :P Cheers, Richard

zero0w
Latest update: There is a bug in Firefox 0.8-0.9.1 preventing the playback of Real media stream; This bug does not exist in Mozilla 1.6/1.7, however. See the previous post for more detail.
