Guest DodgyGeezer
I bought Mandrake 10 PowerPack boxset today and tried to install it. It gets as far as trying to load the program into memory An error box appears with the following message Error Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably a hardware error while reading the data. (This may be caused by a hardware failure or a linux kernel bug) Installing Mandrake 9.1 works fine. I have got 256Meg of memory My pc spec is better than the minimum requirements. Any help would be really appreciated!
Ixthusdan
Try starting with disk 2, and when prompted, insert disk 1. This was a bug with 10CE, but was suppose to have been corrected.

Thanks for replying I have already tried that. It still will not load the program into memory. If you press ok in the error message box it goes into a blank GUI (except for a mouse pointer which works). Nothing else happens. There must be a bug in 10 because 9.1 installs. Ixthusdan
OK. It was worth a try. What brand is your motherboard and video card, just for kicks?
liquidzoo
When is this problem occurring? Do you get the screen that says "Press <enter> to Install, Press <F1> for more options"? Also, do you have any spare RAM lieing around that you can test to see if it's a RAM issue? If you do, take out any RAM that you have in the computer right now and put in the other RAM. Remember - You can have issues with your RAM even if you have a perfectly running Windows installation on the same computer. Linux is way more picky about RAM problems than Windows is. Guest DodgyGeezer
My motherboard is an AMD K6 III 550. My video card is a Voodoo 3 2000. I have 256 M of ram. I press enter to install. Then it trys to load the program into memory (but the bars to signify memory loading do not appear). Shortly after I get the error box. I do not have any spare ram. I might buy some more. liquidzoo
Try pressing F1 when you get that screen and type 'linux expert' (without the quotes) See if that helps. My suspicion, though, is that you may have an issue with your RAM. I could be wrong, though... I certainly hope so.

Thanks for the info. The AMD k6 III is the processor. Do you know what the motherboard brand is, or the model number of the compuer?
