hi i am new for linux and i have a basic question:

i login kde automatically but i don't want this because some programs want root login the question is how can i login as a root at the startup ? i tried manule login with kde display manager but i have some problems with startx .thank you...................

first, I'll give you the normal spiel.

 

logging in as root to KDE or GNOME or any other desktop environment/window manager is -A VERY BAD IDEA-

 

what I suggest you do is open a terminal (konsole, for example) type in

su

and hit enter, then enter your root password, and then type in the name of the program you want to run (not it's title, the executable name).

 

-HOWEVER-

 

if you really want to be able to login as root into the graphical environment, just open Mandrake Control Center go into Boot and then into Auto-Login (this is what it is in Mandrake 10.0 OE, however it should be similar for older versions) and just turn it off there.
