SATA

I've got a MSI Neo-FIS2R which has two in-built SATA controllers. There is a standard controller which is part of the VIA® VT8237 chipset and a Promise 20378 On-Board. I only use them as hard drive controllers, no raid, but they both were detected and now work under MDK 10 Beta2 for the AMD64. Not sure how helpful that is, but good luck,

I have a vague recollection that most SATA chipsets will work with the 2.6 kernel, i.e. you'd have to be very unlucky if your's did not.

The Silicon Image Sil 3112A on my Gigabyte board works. But not in a RAID config.

I'm also 99.9% sure that if you want SATA raid, you are currently out of luck (I found out the hard way)

About a month ago I search day and night for all the info on SATA raid drivers for Linux, and along the way I found a lot of info on SATA. If I 're-find' this info, I'll post it.

I think that Adaptec had the best SATA controller at the moment
