Ixthusdan
My sound volumes will not stay after reboot in 10OE. They will remain after a log-out and log-in, but reboot brings them down to their unusable default settings. I tried playing with DCOP, but to no avail. It won't connect to the dcop server while I am running. So, which file do I edit to change these dumb default sound volumes??
Kjel Oslund
If your running alsa, saving and restoring should be done automatically by the startup/shutdown script (/etc/init.d/alsa). The state of your sound system is stored in /etc/asound.state (a text file). See the man page for alsactl for details. I don't run KDE so I'm not familiar with its sound chain, but if it's overriding the alsa scripts, I'd look for a similar state file in KDE's configuration directories. bvc
kcontrol>Sound>somewhere (Mixer?) you can save the volumes. If you use alsa, make sure alsa-utils is installed>set the volume and do; alsactl store Edited April 26, 2004 by bvc
Ixthusdan
bvc, that was it. It's interesting that suddenly the default settings for saving sound are turned off with kde 3.2.
SurfahBoy808
it's a little annoying to me that I have to open kmix every time I reboot to adjust the volume. I wish it stayed in the system tray all the time. I guess I could always make a app quick launch icon.
Ixthusdan
kmix will stay in the tray if you load it and then save the session by logging out before shuting down. (I know I don't have to shut down, but it's a habit!) But if you turn on the save in the kde control center, as bvc suggested, it will be at the same volume you left it previously. aRTee
so whatabout as root: alsactl store does that help? It should store the current volume levels, and those get restored at boot. Also, kmix stays in the tray if you set kde up to restore from last session. Logout or shutdown, no difference, kde will save your session. Ixthusdan
Yes, kde was saving everything except my sound. I had to turn the save feature on.
kmc77
I just loaded some fixes, and one was labeled as "kde sound default". I haven't noticed any sound problems but I was looking at this thread yesterday and that one fix jumped out at me. Related?
