simcon
I was trying to setup my cf card reader and read that typing makedev was a good idea, but I was in the /dev folder and typed 'makedev --help' and now I have a folder with lots of files inside it called /dev/--help :D I deleted it and all the files inside it and rebooted and it's come back, so I guess I need to do something else right? It doesn't seem to have affected the way my computer works, but it's just that I should remove it if it's garbage. Help :P Cheers.
scoopy
You didn't state, but seeing you posted this in this forum, I guess your using the cli. rename that folder to just help (get rid of the dashes) then try "rm -R help"
aru
If it is still created on each reboot do a grep '--help' /etc/makedev.d/*, a grep '--help' /etc/devfsd.conf or even a grep -r '--help' /etc/devfsd/' to see if that '--help' stuff is in any file. Proceed with extreme care because if you touch something that shouldn't be touched you can make your linux unbootable (not to be scared, just have a knoppix at hand for fixing what may happen). As always, check man pages before touching anything: man makedev man 5 makedev man devfsd man devfsd.conf Edited April 3, 2004 by aru
