agendelman
Hi folks, Tried to install 10.0 rc1 today, but no go. Inserted CD1 and got the message "could not uncompress 2nd stage ramdisk...probably a hardware error while reading data (hardware failure or Linux Kernel bug". I rebooted and tried to reinstall a different kernel: F1 at !st install screed then alt0 for the 2.6 kernal or alt1 for a 2.4 kernel. Neither worked. I inserted MDK 10.0 Beta 2 CD1 and no problem. Any ideas?
Ixthusdan
Did you md5sum the file prior to burning?
agendelman
Yup. md5sum checked out ok.
Lord Kenneth
I think that happened to me when I burned a disk bad. Try burning again.
Ixthusdan
Yes. Could be a bad burn or flaky media.
AkBrian
I have a old pentium pro that does that to me every time I install mandrake on it. Try CTRL-ALT-Delete rebooting it when it dies. 2nd or 3rd time works fine on my old box (which is running bit-torrent right now). I don't have a clue why it does that, but if you watch the kernel messages (F4 ?), you'll see some king of work around happen, really. -AkBrian
aRTee
Agendelman, I noticed you fixed the problem (if it was you on the club-site) by redownloading and reburning the discs; could you check the cdr isos of the first try, whether it was just a bad burn?
