Kristof
I can only hear one sound at a time. For example, when I'm playing MP3's with xmms, I can't hear the notification sound of gaim. Is there any way to fix this? I'm using Mandrake 9.2 and I have a Soundblaster 128.
mtweidmann
Yes there is, but the solution depends on what desktop your using. For KDE there is a deamon called "arts" which acts as a middle man, allowing multiple apps to use the card at once. For it work however the apps need to be told to use arts, if they're not it won't work. For most apps there is an option in the config menu, for instance Xmms: Right Click on GUI -> Options -> Preferences, then chnage the output plugin on the IO tab. Then close and re-open Xmms (not strictly needed but helps). For apps that don't provide arts support themselves you need to change the shortcut command used to launch them so that the command reads: soundwrapper <app_name> eg: soundwrapper realplay Gnome has an equivalent, but not using it myself I don't know much about it. Hope this helps! :)
iphitus
GNOME's equivalent is ESD, Ennlightened Sound Daemon. Again you need to change the ouput plugins and if its not installed you can get it from urpmi
