aRTee
Found this post on PCLO: http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?n...order=0&thold=0 "I have built KDE 3.2 RPMs for Mandrake 9.2, the RPMs are built from the Cooker SRPMS. The RPMS are at ftp://voidstar.dyndns.org/mirrors/kde32-for-mdk92/ My cable connection only has 100K upload so be patient. " There's also this: "I also have the files available via Bittorrent at: https://voidstar.dyndns.org/kde32-for-mdk92...k92...2.torrent" 1) it would be an idea to put/mirror it on the boards ftp section 2) this is a nice way for the not-so-brave to move to kde3.2 on Mdk9.2. mtriley98
I used the bittorrent link and downloaded the rpms to a file on my desktop. Then I went to MCC and linked the file as a source for rpms. libxinerama.so.1 is missing and I can't install any of the kde or qt rpms. Kde's konstruct didn't work for me either. I have a 600 p3 in a gateway E-4200 tower and I'm using ML9.2 with the 2.6 kernel. Can't say I'm a newbie at this but I'm not in the gifted category either. Maybe someone could shed a little light on this problem.
Mouth
There's also this:"I also have the files available via Bittorrent at: https://voidstar.dyndns.org/kde32-for-mdk92...k92...2.torrent" So how do you install these? Just open a shell, change to the i586 dir, and run "rpm -u *" to install/upgrade them all? Then reboot and you'll now be on 3.2?
aRTee
I'm downloading as we speak, bittorrent is doing ok at >30kB/s. I think upgrading should work, and I'm quite sure that you can do without rebooting - this is linux. Restarting the Xserver should be more than enough, maybe logging off does fine already. cardassianscot
mtriley98, I can't help with the rpm problem, but as for konstruct. There are two versions of autoconf on the mandrake CD, only one is installed by default but konstruct requires the other. Make sure both are installed and then try again. At least this worked for me (took me over 3 months to work it out though [to work out what to do not compile, that took me about 16-20 hours].) aRTee
I installed the rpms with some dependency problems, for kdepim and other stuff,.. In the end, I had to fix xine / totem (with a new package from plf), and run update-menus as a user. 3.2 is lots faster than 3.1, but on easy of upgrade, I'd say YMMV.. frosterrj
Artee, are the spec files correct? adriaan
I think he just downloaded the cooker SRPMS and rebuild it on a Mdk 9.2 installation.
aRTee
All these error warnings are strange to me, didn't have that... Not a clue, sorry.
!nkubus
But aRTee how did you install then ? youve compiled it and did a check install or rpm all the rps and install it after?.
chris:b
@frosterrj and inkubus: You could try to follow this order: (but you will loose your complete kde 3.1.3/4 first): 0. set up your urpmi sources 1. logout from your de,or alt-ctrl-F1 and init 3 2. Uninstall the old qt3 and libqt3 (now you will loose everything that depends on it ;-) Install: 3. urpmi libqt3 (the NEW one) 4. urpmi qt3 (the NEW one) 5.arts, libarts 6.kdelibs-common, libkdecore, mandrake-mime 7. libkdebase ... 8. kdebase, and all kdebase progs, kdebase-kmenuedit etc 9. kde-i18.. (your locale) 10. galaxy-kde, mdkkdm, and all additional packages kde-multimedia, network, graphics etc. Restart x or your computer ;-) and pray. And take a look, which kde applications you have to re-install: k3b, Koffice ... and if they will work. Info: I did not install the packages mentioned above, but different KDE 3.2 rpm's of a German guy. They won't help you because they are only available for the German locale. Good luck. Note: on the first run I had the following bugs: kcontrol didn't work, menus are disappearing, could solve that, had to get a new k3b version. Still no KOffice ;-) Had to re-compile kaffeine, works now. KDE 3.2, as artee said, is big step forward. Very responsive.
frosterrj
well I solved the problem by putting the mandrake club (cooker?) ftp in my sources and used the MCC to update everything, and seemed to work great, with the EXCEPTION of the login manager. I chose KDM, but everything in the list to log onto (GNOME, KDE, etc) all pointed to IceWM!!! Somehow I finally got KDE up again. My panel was also a little screwed up (TINY ICONS!!) but I just went to Kcontorl and increased the size 1 pixel and all was golden again.
