I've been looking for a good video player on which I can view most standard formats and codecs that will run under Linux. (You know, something that will play movie trailers encoded for all those people on Windows boxes, like QuickTime or Windows Media Player.) Has anyone had a really good experience with one software package or another?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice. I'm downloading mplayer now; we'll see if that one works for me. I've got Xine installed, but can't get the audio portions of video files to play for some bizarre reasons...

i have yet to get mplayer gui working  , but it is great from cmd line, and Xine is also very difficult to get working, so as long as you are doing it the hard way, do the media player preferred by most for it's sheer ass kicking ability.. mplayer Like cannonfodder said, Ogle is great for dvd, and not that darned hard to get going either.. imagine that.
