Guest Yesterday
When I boot, init hangs for almost two minutes and the following messages are reported: Nov 16 14:43:41 localhost ifup: Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : Nov 16 14:43:41 localhost ifup: SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported. Nov 16 14:43:41 localhost ifup: Determining IP information for eth0... Nov 16 14:43:41 localhost ifup: Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) : Nov 16 14:43:41 localhost ifup: SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported. Nov 16 14:44:45 localhost ifup: failed. Nov 16 14:44:45 localhost network: Bringing up interface eth0: failed I am using a wireless card which is PCMCIA and prints the following messages: Nov 16 14:44:46 localhost pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services: Nov 16 14:44:47 localhost pcmcia: cardmgr[940]: watching 3 sockets Nov 16 14:44:47 localhost pcmcia: done. Nov 16 14:44:47 localhost rc: Starting pcmcia: succeeded notice the timing here, the PCMCIA services are started AFTER eth0 is brought up. Is this the problem? The card still works somehow but this two minute hang is rather frustrating and inconvenient. I'm running MDK 9 on a Toshiba Satellite 5101-S701. Help me break my Micro$hackles! Guest Yesterday
So now the network doesn't work at all. It came to this after I ran OpenOffice.org and had to hit the power button after a freeze. Same messages as before but now the network doesn't work. Wow. It may be helpful to note that this same thing happened before and I fixed the problem by reinstalling MDK, which I would like to avoid this time around. peace
Pzatch
Are you using DHCP to find your ip address each time you turn on the computer? Try setting the ip manualy and seeing if this speeds it up. Maybe its a delay in the IP giving the ip number back.
AA
In the past when I've had similar problems it has just been the ip address. Once i configured it manually it all went away... Try giving it an ip manually.....!!
