Guest timmyp
Newbie here... Confused about which version of Samba will support Win XP.... 2.2 and higher? Also, what do I need to download? I went to the samba.org binary downloads for Mandrake and there are several downloads available. Do I want the 'common' package, the 'server' package, which? I have a 3 machine network, Linux will act as server and router for other two machines (1 is Win 98se and 1 is Win XP Pro). I'm using Mandrake 8.1 and it appears from what I've read that the version of Samba included with that distribution does not support Win XP. Can someone point me in the right direction? ranger
I think 2.2.2 added support for XP, but can't remember exactly now ... Did you read the instructions that accompany the binaries on the samba FTP mirrors??? You will need at least: samba-server samba-common With urpmi, add the urpmi source (as it says in the README.txt): # urpmi.addmedia samba-2.2.6 http://www.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Pack...e/RPMS/`awk '{print $4}' /etc/mandrake-release` with hdlist.cz urpmi samba-server
