I am having problems when I try to start a Linux game.

Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual

History:

Exiting due to error

What's wrong here ? Do I have the wrong video drivers or something ?

several games I try to run under WineX, like Warcraft III and Airline Tycoon Evolution. I also get this lately with WineX games:

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"

and then the screen goes and stays black until I alt-tab back to terminal. Then I have to logout and in of GNOME to get my display back from 640x480 to 1024x768. Real annoying.

use the command

glxinfo

then look for the line direct rendering like so

[john@bob john]$ glxinfo | grep "direct"
direct rendering: Yes
[john@bob john]$

if direct rendering is yes opengl drivers should be working if not that will be your problem.

I have the same problem trying to run Unreal Tournament 2004 and glxinfo says "No" direct rendering. The game will work with software rendering but it's reeeeeeaaaaly slow.

What should I do now?

I have a Radeon 340M (for laptop).

I have played Warcraft 3, COunter Strike, Enemy Territory, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Tux Racer on my laptop which has integrated Intel video, that brrows memoy from main memory. Yep. 3D games are supported on laptops.

Rashko yu are in a bit of trouble, ati dont provide drivers and your vendor aent providing drivers, so ill have a look see. In the meantime try the flgx (i think thats what they are called) ones.
