tyme
it means the guys who weren't doing any work are leaving the project...if you think about it, it's not really a huge deal.
Guest kuchwas
Developers in Cooker seem pleased. XFree work will go better now, in their opinions. Here is a link that will clarify. Edited December 31, 2003 by kuchwas

zero0w
It's really not that bad at all, since I believe more innovative development is now possible without the political kickbacks happened since last April (as a result it made Keith Packard to work on an XFree86 fork): http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/12/3...31/1337209&tid= Edited December 31, 2003 by zero0w
sarah31
how will this effect xfree86 (4.4)? it won't. xfree86 is a dying stale project as it is. there have been no major changes in the functionality and performance of X for the entire thre or four years i have used linux. while x generally gets the job done it is not good enough yet to really woo the rest of the computer world over. xfree86 needs some drastic changes in order to step into the present century. if fact so do the gui toolkit developers for that matter. Michel
I just downloaded the latest code from Xfree86. Ibn the beginniong I was doubting about choosing between teh version at freesektop.org and teh Xfree86. I haven't yet taken a good look at Xouvert, but the last time I checked them, they just splitted up the code, mayeb now they are further . Time to check upon them again. I didn't choose for freesektop.org-version, because I believe there isn't yet any nvidia-driver..but I could be wrong on this. Happy new year for the rest.
