Guest rittchat
I bought a webcam (i-ball C8.0 face to face). I have a pc with Windows XP and Mandriva gnome 2010 free edition, dual boot. I have installed skype in both the operating systems. Windows: I plug in the webcam in the USB port and DIDN'T install any driver. In Skype the camera is working perfectly. Mandriva: Skype is unable to make the webcam operate. I tried the Cheese Webcam Booth. That also didn't function properly. Instead of showing video it is only only showing a still photo. Please suggest how to make the webcam operate for both skype and Mandriva Linux.
ianw1974
Click Cheese and then the Video option. Any better? If not, then please do the following for us from a console prompt: su (enter root when prompted) lsusb copy and paste the results here so we can see more about your webcam. Guest rittchat
Thanks ianw1974, below is the output of lsusb command Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1e4e:0100 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
ianw1974
OK, I'm not really seeing your webcam being recognised, unless of course it is Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1e4e:0100 and it seems that it is because when I check here: http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/#devices your camera is listed, but the note says: 1e4e:0100 USB 2.0 Camera Etron Technologies [10] 10 The camera has been reported not to work when connected to a USB 1.1 hub. Yours is connected to a USB 1.1 hub. If it's a desktop machine, I suggest getting a USB 2.0 card installed to make use of your webcam. Or try a different webcam that is potentially support. Guest rittchat
Yes it is a desktop machine. I think I have one usb 2.0 port Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub I will try that port and let you know what happen. Thanks again
Guest rittchat
I have installed vlc media player. That is capturing all video quite nicely. I tried to run skype with the following command: bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype' When I'm testing video in skype, it is working fine. But when trying to make a videocall skype is quitting on its own whenever I'm trying speak something. When the person on the other side is speaking, then skype is working properly. But whenever I'm trying speak every time skype is quitting on its own. When I'm just doing audio chat (by disabling the video} then this problem is not occurring. Please suggest me some measure to deal with this problem.
