SILVERPENGUIN
Also, the "Enterprise" option in the boot manager screen can't seem to find the Nvidia driver. And....I still can't get that blasted java plug-in to work. It installs....say's everything is peachy-keen....... Thus, it fails to boot into KDE Edited December 11, 2003 by SILVERPENGUIN
bvc
the Enterprise kernel is for 1 or more GB ram. NVIDIA is kernel specific. Meaning if your upgrade your kernel or boot to one diff than the one nvidia was install with (uname -r) you have to uninstall and reinstall nvidia if you want nvidia. That's rt, wanna go back to and old kernel because of probs? Gotta uninstall and reinstall nvidia. Pain huh? BUT, you can always edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and comment out #Load "glx" and change Driver "nvidia" to Driver "nv" Where did ya get your java? tar? rpm? rpm pkgs look fine. SILVERPENGUIN
From where ever it sent me when it told me I needed it. It had the linux version...I chose that and nix! I do have a GB of 2700 DDR. Perhaps after all this is said and done, you can help me remove and install the NVIDIA drivers again. In truth, I'd like to install a bleeding edge kernel in the near future just so "I" ( ) can have yet another problem in my life to be resolved! SILVERPENGUIN
I'll try your link for Java. Nvidia working fine for the moment. Hmmmm...Intesting....I don't recall anything about a /path/to...... Yes, Mozilla. No, Java doesn't show up. Just the puzzle-box icon when I'm on a page with Java. Yes...I was definitely in root. Thanks, bvc!
SILVERPENGUIN
BINGO!!! I see the problem already. I didn't delete the symlinks!!! Then again...this is what I just got when running the commands: cd /usr/bin [root@localhost bin]# rm java javac jar rm: cannot lstat `java': No such file or directory rm: cannot lstat `javac': No such file or directory rm: cannot lstat `jar': No such file or directory [root@localhost bin]# Edited December 11, 2003 by SILVERPENGUIN
SILVERPENGUIN
bash: cd: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/: No such file or directory [root@localhost bin]# Me thinks the instructions might be out of date. I had to change a few things. There is no Mozilla-1.4/plugins/ file or dir. Oh bother!
Guest anon
Weird that some people have problems using the java RPM on our d-load site. I have used it three times (old version and new) on beta's and the 9.2 final. Never had a problem. Just click and it does everything. No need to add symlinks or anything. Guess its just one of those mysteries.........

SILVERPENGUIN
Perhaps it is a matter of where you obtained your version. I, for one, picked mine up from a Linux magazine. It was a dvd with three or four cd's worth on it. Perhaps I shall have more luck with Suse 9 Pro when I pick up a copy for X-mas. So far I like Linux. I just think they need to simplify the updating/new program installation/un-install functions before the majority will give it a serious look over M$. It is not like I am a complete ignoramous ....I'm fairly good about following instructions. I just hope that my problems I'm having will serve me well in the future by the extra bit of knowledge I'm forced to digest. At the moment though...I seriously identify with this character.....----> Edited December 11, 2003 by SILVERPENGUIN
bvc
so what happens if you, after installing everything, create the dir's and symlink? Should work, because that's how we had to do it in the old days.
