Hi,

My edimax usb wifi dongle ew7711utn(

lsusb : Bus 001 Device 005: ID 7392:7711

) used to work really well and it seems that along some upgrades (2009.1 -> 2010 I think) it stopped working.

Symptom :

The connection doesn't seem to work although there is a bit of signal according to the bars (1 red little bar).

Drivers :

The driver which use to work was rt2870sta and a new driver is now used by mandriva by default :

root@localhost steph]# lsmod | grep 3070
rt3070sta 507060 1
usbcore 185744 6 rt3070sta,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhid

tail -f /var/log/messages :

I tried to blacklist the new driver in the modprobe.conf without success.

Not sure what to do now, any ideas?

Thank you

If you modprobe -r the new driver, and then modprobe the old one, does it work?

If so, then how are you trying to blacklist the other one? Under /etc/modprobe.d by creating a new file? Or some other way?

Hi Ian,

Am afraid the modprobe manip doesn't work, the blacklisting was done following instructions I saw on an ubuntu forum where people where discussing the issue.

There are indications here (ubuntuforums.org) that the problem is well known with the device.A shame as I chose edimax for their Linux support. It seems that there is a file somewhere which needs a bit of fiddling with but it might take me a few weeks to find it out!
