  1. Hi

I'm using realplayer 10 on mandrake 10.1 and the video does not work properly. It will play ok for a few seconds and then stop. Starting again a few seconds later. This keeps repeating. Its not a problem due to streaming over the net, as I have the same problem playing stored RAM files on my computer. The audio works perfectly.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

  2. Thanks for your responses guys. Firstly, the laptop is setup with a static IP address. I presume the DNS info is ok, as normally the system works without problems for surfing the net etc. I basically have 3 network interfaces, eth1 which connects to the cable modem, eth0 which connects to another windows machine and wlan0, for the wireless network.

Yeah, rebooting does seem to help. I've been in touch with the acx driver people and they''ve recommended updated the firmware. I'll try that and let you know how it goes.

  3. Hi

I have setup my mandrake 10.1 PC to act as a wireless server, and I have windows XP machine which connects wirelessly to this machine. The problem being that the connection seems quite tempramental. It doesn't seem to be a question of signal strength, as the windows PC says that the signal strength is good and that there is a connection. But, when one tries accessing the net, it just times out. I cant even ssh into the linux PC either, which means that the problem doesn't just lie with port 80.

I try pinging the windows PC, to which it does not always respond. On my linux box im using a US robotics 22Mbs wireless PCI card using the acx100 driver and on the windows laptop I'm using a netgear 11Mbs PCMCIA card. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

  4. Hi

I'm running mandrake 10.1 on a 2.6 Ghz machine with 256MB of RAM. My swap partition size is 500MB. Firefox just seems to eat hundreds of megabytes of my memory! It doesn't happen straight away, but slowly the memory usage creeps up and up, meaning that my computer practically grinds to a halt as linux starts using the swap partition. Anyone else experienced this? Know how to fix it?

  5. Hi

I've recently installed mandrake 10.1 on a new machine with a memory card reader incorporated

within the machine itself. Initially, it seemed to work ok, but now its just disappeared. I have done some other software installations since the install but i'm not sure at what point is disappeared. It was available on the device /dev/sdb1. I've tried fdisk -l and cdrecord -scanbus but there is absolutely nothing there!

Any ideas? I am fairly new to linux so please go easy on me!

    Thanks

  6. Hi

    I've installed samba and on the whole it works fine. I'm storing a dos program on my linux server and I am trying to access it via a windows XP machine. The program starts to load but fails and says that there is a problem accessing another file. It gives a dos error 2 which I think means that it cant open the file. Anyone knows why this is? Here is a copy of my smb.conf file;

  7. Hi folks,

I'm running mandrake 10.1 and I am trying to run a script when the system boots up and then another script when the system shutsdown. The scripts basically setup my wireless pci card using the acx100 drivers and I would like for my system to sort this out without me having to type './start_net' or './stop_net' all the time. Is there a simple way to do this? Sorry if this is a really dumb question.

    Cheers
