  1. The errata page is blank  I doubt this means there are no issues
  2. I had the same problem, it was resolved when I installed gstreamer0.10-faad.
  3. Thanks for the link. Prey is not bomb proof, but it's good enough to withstand the non-techie theif. :)
  4. ...And do: urpmi kernel-desktop-latest this will make sure you always have the latest headers installed. VirtualBox modules that need to be recompiled due to a kernel update will do so automatically. Your kernel is old. We're at 2.6.29.3 now. It is the OSE version in the repos.
  5. Glad to see I'm not the only one who has a problem with the default setting of the package manager. I'm also happy to see I'm not alone in wanting the option to implement disk encryption at the install stage. :)
  6. My crashing issues seem to have disappeared with the latest kernel version: 2.6.29.3
  7. I'm having the same random crashing of everything (including plasma) on my desktop pc. Yet my laptop installs are rock solid. I thought it might be something that I added so I started again with a default install. I didn't add anything and still the crashing continues. No error messages get thrown up. It doesn't matter if I use Mandriva Free or Mandriva One. I'm wondering if it's this BioStar motherboard. You can still go back to KDE 3.5.xx (for now) by loading task-kde3.
  8. According to my system my installed glibc version is: glibc-2.9-0.20081113.5mnb2 and that would have been from the repos.
  9. The new version available thing has cleared up now. I also had no sound or keyboard but all is well with kernel 2.6.27.19-1 instead of the new 2.6.29.1-4
  10. Thanks for the suggestion tux99. The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens C-Series Lifebook. This problem only occurs with the new kernel 2.6.29.1-4 everything works fine with kernel 2.6.27.19-1
  11. Well it looks like I was premature in announcing a problem free net upgrade to 2009.1 on both laptops. I have no keyboard input at the Greeter nor on the Desktop on one of the laptops. I do have keyboard input in the konsole though. The mouse also works correctly. The laptop in question was the one that had Mandriva One as its initial install. I had a look through the kdmrc file. I compared the contents with the kdmrc file from my other laptop. I couldn't find any different entries. It's the same story with xorg.conf, the correct details are in the keyboard section. Where else can I look to try and figure this out?
  12. I just waited for the notification of an upgrade being available and ran it. One laptop started out as Mandriva One 2009 (because it doesn't have a dvd drive) and the other was Mandriva Free 2009. They have both successfully upgraded to 2009.1. I'm going to try using the dvd to upgrade my desktop machine later, to see if that works too. Oh and both laptops were upgraded wirelessly.
  13. I've upgraded both my laptops and got exactly the same error message at the end of the process. However the upgrade appears to have been successfull (you can verify by checking the release version do: cat /etc/release). Good work apart from the hiccup at the end :)
  14. There shouldn't be any problem doing it that way. If anything it should guarantee a clean reinstall.
  15. I didn't know about that script. Thanks for posting that scarecrow. :)
  16. Take a look in CompizConfig Settings Manager (ccsm) under Window Management make sure Resize Window and Move Window is checked.
  17. Although I applaud AMD for their contribution and their efforts to provide an alternative to Nvidia, they simply must improve their support for their own hardware. It's no good leaving users 'high and dry' that leaves a bitter taste and discourages potential customers. -1 for AMD here. :(
  18. The box disappears to the systray (my icon is a lifebuoy) sometimes it hangs around long enough for you to click on it. You can then see if the transfer has completed. Other than that the only other notification I have seen is at the bottom of the dolphin file manager. It says something like 'Copy operation completed' along with a checkmark. I hope they improve notification, with a popup (configurable of course) that disappears when you click it.
  19. Why 3 posts on the same subject?
  20. Thank you Spiral of Hope for clarifying the turn of events. I take onboard your assertion that Unity Linux is not a fork of PCLinuxOS :)
  21. That blog entry has now disappeared. Pity, I would like to have read that to get another perspective. Well here we go again, another fork...
  22. The command is 'case-sensitive' type XFdrake as root. If you get the same response, just reinstall and pay closer attention to the choices offered.
  23. I wasn't arguing the merits of using sudo. I'm referring to the ridiculous situation where by default in Mandriva any user can apply updates. I'm glad you added: 'Providing of course, that sudo is configured properly in the first place.' As it is in *buntu as long as I know at least one users password I could wreak havoc using sudo anyway.
