1. How about: Right-Click, Cut --> Right-Click, Paste ;)
2. If you go into your home folder (in gnome), select the option to show hidden files, look for a .kde folder. Delete it, log out and then try logging into KDE again. Deleting this folder will remove any customisation you have made to your KDE desktop so, you will have to re-do them again. You don't have to re-format to reinstall. Unless your computer is super slow, it's normally a quick process.
3. I don't think 10.1 has support for SATA drives, which is what your dell uses. Follow adamw advice and get the latest release of Mandriva.
4. Apparently you can use b43-fwcutter to extract the drivers. I have not used this app so it might be better to wait for a response from someone who has. I don't know if ndiswrapper would be able to use the Acer 80211bg file and strip the driver from it. If you're feeling adventurous and would like to try the file is available for download from here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/128303 It's the 80211bg.zip file.
5. From what I've read there isn't an XP driver well at least not one offered by Dell. What does the Hardware section in the Mandriva Control Center identify your wireless as?
6. Have you checked in Mandriva Control Center--> Network & Internet--> Remove a connection, to see if your wireless is there, if it is remove it. Then start again.
7. Let's create a blacklist file. Open a konsole and as root type: touch /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and hit enter. Next check that the file has been created by typing ls -ls /etc/modprobe.d you should see a single file called blacklist. Now we are going to add your bcmwl5 to this file. Do Alt & F2 type: kdesu kwrite /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and press run. Enter your root password. Now put blacklist bcmwl5 save the changes and close kwrite. Close all open applications and reboot your machine. Try ndiswrapper again.
8. Is bcmwl5 the name of the driver ndiswrapper says is already configured?
9. You don't need to edit the Xorg file. Make sure your monitor correctly identified in the Mandriva Contol Centre (Configure your computer)--> Hardware--> Setup the Graphical Server. You will have to do this everytime you reload the live cd.
10. That may be down to the security settings. On a default install it is set to High instead of Standard. To get the package info you requested.
11. As greg has pointed out, you are still using the 2008.1 repos. If you are using Mandriva 2009 you need to use the 2009 repos.
12. In which case you need to unload that driver first. Here is how I did mine: 1. I got the model of the wireless from MCC--> Hardware--> Browse and configure hardware 2. I then got the correct XP driver for my model and extracted it into a folder. 3. I went to MCC--> Network & Internet--> Set up a new network interface 4. I Chose to add wireless and selected ndiswrapper I got a message telling me that the device is already configured with the <insert driver name here>, Do you really want to use ndiswrapper, answer Yes. If you then get the message: Unable to find the ndiswrapper interface, open a terminal, switch to root and type: rmmod <insert name of driver here> to unload it. Now try again with ndiswrapper. Once the install is successfull, go back to the console and type as root: ndiswrapper -ma This will make ndiswrapper the default driver to use upon boot up. If you have any wireless indicators it should now be on at this point. The final step is to blacklist the default driver that wasn't working. Do: Alt & F2 type: kdesu kwrite /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-compat -- edit Don't do this, follow the instructions in Posted Today, 02:07 AM on creating a blacklist file and click run. Enter your root password. When the file is loaded add blacklist <insert name of driver here> to the bottom of the list. Save the change and close kwrite. Hopefully you should have your wireless installed and working.
13. There's a nice, easy to follow howto here: http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/doku.p...are:ndiswrapper take it from the Installing a Windows driver section. Let us know if you still have problems.
14. Why do you need to use Alt, Ctrl & Backspace? It's not meant to be a way of quickly logging off. Doing that restarts your Xserver and dumps you back to the log on screen. Are you suffering from lockups of your desktop?
15. Maybe it's me but, I fail to see the link between Mandriva and your bios message?
16. Is it the same piece of software? Several pieces of software? What is the name(s) of the sofware in question? More information will get you more solutions.
17. I just can't keep a straight face everytime I read this.
18. Just to let you know Opera 9.60 has just been released. :)
19. Or login as root and run drak3d press enter twice and that's it 3d now disabled.
