Hi! I placed a copy of each autoconfiscated third-party dependency of my software as a subdirectory. I then followed the instructions for building subpackages in autotools. However, there is a subpackage that needs to have certain parameters passed to its configure script. The macro AC_CONFIG_SUBDIRS passes the command line parameters to the configure script of each subpackage but I do not want the user to worry about the exact parameters to pass to configure. My question now is how do I set the parameters to pass to configure in my subpackages?

Hi! What software do you use for traffic shaping? I wanted to use shorewall's built-in support but it requires ipp2p support in the kernel to match p2p traffic. Unfortunately, ipp2p is not compiled in the kernel, at least for the one I'm using (2.6.17-5mdvlegacy).

Sorry for that. The replies seem to suggest that I should be asking the guys at MDE. Anyway, here's what I did. I added the Mdv2007 installation files to smart then as root: telinit 3 smart upgrade After that, I reboot to Mdv2007 Installation CD 1 and chose the upgrade option. I had trouble with xorg such that I can't run X after rebooting. What I did was to install xorg related packages specially those that are still MDE. For some packages, I did a rpm -ivh --force to force installation because urpmi thinks that the mde packages are newer than the mdv2007 ones. I also encountered a problem with kdm. One way to solve it is to drakedm and choose gdm. Another way is to replace /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc with /etc/kde/kdmrc.rpmnew. The text in gnome might appear as boxes. To solve this, sudo pango-querymodules-32 > /etc/pango/i386/pango.modules

I can also do that but I prefer the installer because it runs several configuration scripts. I suppose the installer does a urpmi --auto --auto-select during an upgrade. What are the other commands called by the installer? Hmm... does that mean I should downgrade first to mdv2006 base install? :o

Hi! I am trying to upgrade my mdv2006 to mdv2007 using the free version. However, the installer is stuck at computing dependencies. I tried rpm --rebuilddb and reinstalling again but it didn't work. My box is KDE 3.5.4 and was upgraded using MDE. I think I experienced the same problem when I upgraded to a newer version of KDE from the stock KDE of mdv2006. I worked around it by using smart. Any suggestions on how I can solve this problem?

I followed the link and I added an entry in /etc/fstab. The device got mounted automatically although KDE still thinks that the device is unmounted. Anyway, this is just minor and I can live with it. I just hope that this issue gets fixed soon. Thanks for the reply!

Hi! Is there anyone who had problems with hal? The removable device daemon pops up when a removable device is inserted but it is not mounted. I'm thinking of downgrading hal but that will also downgrade dbus which will, in turn, downgrade kde 3.5.3. Any suggestions?

Hi! I would like to know the difference between Mandriva Enhanced RPMs and cooker. AFAIK, cooker overhauls the entire system. That is, it upgrades all libraries and packges so it is not advisable to install individual packages from cooker to a stable release since they have different compiled libraries. How about with MDE? Is it safe to install an individual package (inc. deps, of course) over a corresponding stable release? Or do I need to upgrade the whole release itself?

Hi! How can I make logrotate run hourly? Do I just need to move logrotate from cron.daily to cron.hourly? Is there an hourly keyword in the logrotate config file aside from the daily, weekly, monthly keywords? What I want to do is to limit the size of .xsession-errors since it becomes very large in a single day. Is there a better way? Thanks.

spinynorman, I've looked at Kivio and it has imported Dia's templates. Apparently, however, it does not support rotation too. arctic, I've looked at OOo Draw before posting here and find its connectors excellent. Unfortunately, as DragonMage pointed out, it doesn't have templates. Fortunately, there's a logic template (actually only an sxd) in ooextras so I used it in this case. However, I'll encounter this same problem again in the future when I use circuits. siege, I use InkScape actually for general purpose vector graphics I might create templates (at least for the ones I use) for OOo Draw and post it in ooextras in the future when I have the time and motivation

Hi! Can any one recommend a replacement for Dia? I find its lack of support for rotations very restrictive. I'm not looking for a general purpose vector graphics program but a diagramming application. Specifically, something that contains templates/stencils for circuits, logic, etc. It's more of an updated (more "user-friendly") xfig

You do not really need a proxy. A better way is to make your linux box act as a router through ip masquerading aka network address translation or nat. Try using the "ICS" of mandriva found in the mcc. If you have problems, just search this forum. Good luck!

It's for security reasons. An attacker usually pings a series of ip addresses (computers) to look for a target that is alive or connected to the network. When the pinged computer replies, it means that it's alive and an attacker can then do his other tricks (e.g. doing a port scan.) However, it's not a guarantee that you're computer will be perfectly safe if you refuse to reply to pings (which is an ICMP echo request)

Hi! I've learned that it is not recommended to install an rpm from cooker. What then is the best way to upgrade a software: rebuild from a cooker srpm, compile the vanilla tarball or use the author's precompiled binary?

Even the entries in kmenuedit are inconsistent :(

After fixing my menu with duplicate entries, I've found out that the actual menu and the menu shown on startup of menudrake are inconsistent. This is the case both the system menu and other users' menu. Now, what could be wrong?

I see. If I understand correctly, I should do dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c length_of_iso | md5sum or dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c `stat --format=%s ISO_image` | md5sum I can then compare the result to the md5 sum of the iso. That is logical since an iso is just the raw bytes to be burned unless there are headers, etc added to it. Salamat! ;)

I kinda fixed it for me but the result was not perfect. When I renamed my .local and .menu, there are still duplicate entries because /var/lib/menu-xdg/applications contain three directories. When I removed the other directories except Mandrakelinux, the default menu was fixed. In my account, the menu was not recreated after I've renamed .local so I just recreated the menu by creating .local/share/applications and copying /var/lib/menu-xdg/applications/Mandrakelinux there. I relogin once or twice and its quite okay now. Thanks Germ and bvc for the help! :)
