  1. wooo its downloading 320 packages now :-) this will take some time, even on my 1meg connection......anything i do when this is complete? just reboot and carry on as nothing happened?
  2. yup thanks :) im in the middle of getting the sources now (i made sure i removed my last lot). ill follow instructions to the letter and post here how it goes :) so far so good..........! 3 sources downloaded edit : just so as i get this right - ive done this : 1. installed a clean mdk 10.1 CE 2. signed up (didnt have to do this) to mandrakeonline so i get auto updates (eventually maybe) 3. downloading the sources from urpmi 4. urpmi uprmi (says everything is installed) 5. urpmi --auto-select
  3. OK heres an update. Ive just logged into my mandrakeonline.net account and in the updates section a note has appeared (most definately was not there before) saying : --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note that if you are using a Community release, you need to upgrade it to Official in order to be able to use Mandrakeonline on it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- so im right about upgrading to official using urpmi? ANOTHER update : ive been over to linuxquestions and the answer is to indeed select official instead of community at urpmi. dont know if i can post the link to their forum here?
  4. so then, with community 10.1 how exactly am i meant to generate the 'updates_source' ? Every mirror ive tried gives the same error - impossible to update after checking for updates source. i feel like ive paid mandrake a years subs for automatic updates i cant get. Whats more its annoying they dont reply to emails. any suggestions other than ask for my money back and use a stable linux? :(
  5. it is ok to update from 10.1 community to 10.1 official isnt it? (just wondering before i do)
  6. Admin : Please close this thread as its continued here : http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=21492
  7. The problem i was having is that i was selecting Community Edition, and not official 10.1 The community sources dont include the 'updates sources' :P when i was checking the net if found LOTS and LOTS of people having this problem. I was amazed to be honest.
  8. it appears that the problem is with 10.1 community addition. Ive scoured the net and found the possible answer. Which is to update to the 10.1 official version which DOES include adding update sources. hope it works, ill try it when i get home. http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
  9. yep done all that, several times but no updates_sources created, i have no idea what to do now and my faith in mdk is dwindling :(
  10. i dont have the updates sources maybe i just get that when i can actually update? (if ever)
  11. um can anyone help here? ive tried probably most (if not all) of the mirrors and i cant update a thing. It always stops on the 'update sources'.
  12. k thanks, odd indeed. ive gone to that site and input my details , im now downloading (and installing?) main, contrib, plf, & jpackage sources once those are complete do i do anything? (im in as root doing it btw) edit : wo thought it messed up when doing the main one, screen went black but i logged back in lol
  13. heres a screenshot of what im faced with (attached). ive tried most mirrors to get my 114 updates....what do i do :(
  14. thanks for the feedback, ive weighed things up and decided to go for the fully paid up member (whats £12.50 anyway), for various reasons. One being its easier :-) and numerous other reasons including the respect i have for linux developers.
  15. hm well u know ive installed mandrake 10.1 but.......this mandrake updates applets puts all the updates on with no cost to myself? i might pay for a years subscription at mandrakeonline.net if it is beneficial or even required? isnt the updates this updates applet doing the same as http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ ? or additional to?
  16. ok hate to double post BUT im online with mandrake 10.1 and browsing as you can see :-) lots of choices to make now, um where do i start
  17. Hi Adrian, i certainly will look into that. Never heard of it myself, but worth looking into. installing mandrake 10.1 as we speak and as expected going smoothly, im installing all the server software and will simply remove any i dont use later. w00t disk 2 just went in, can you feel the excitement!! TIP : btw guys when i downloaded the cd's and had to burn the iso's to 3 disks i didnt have a cd burner handy and had to trawl looking for a free one (i do pay for some things but if it can be free why not :P ) and came across deepburner from http://www.deepburner.com which is free for personal use. Its great cos its soooooooooooooo easy. Simply pop the blank cd in the cdrw, run the program select burn iso from the prompt, select the file you want to burn the OK! its cool, alot of other burners arnt so simple to the newbie. just thought id share that in my mandrake experience w00t disk 3 just went in
  18. um disc one is only downloading at 14.9kbps :( and i have a 1meg connection ah well will be worth waiting for. already got my thoughts on getting samba running so i can network over to my other comps (windows) in regard to wine, does it give an enviroment so some windows stuff run on it? or does it convert?
  19. Heya, partly to introduce myself, and partly to tell you what my plan is. Im a 33 english man from errr.....england :-) a part time games designer and full time (way too many hours) admin manager. ive been making games using win o/s for over 6 years now, which includes browser based games, muds, and visual basic 2d mmorpgs my aim is to use one of my networked machines (i have several) with a linux o/s on (windows one is there as a backup if needed) - mandrake 10.1 took 9 hours to download the 3 iso's and then when i went to burn them kinda messed up disk 1 lol - other 2 disks are burned nicely and now have to wait for disc 1 to redownload (was corrupted by my own hands lol) - 60% downloaded. ive had mandrake 9 on a machine before and found it real easy to install and manage. it will be cool to see the improvements 10.1 has my aim is to convert all my games to linux, wont be easy and will take awhile. obviously i cant convert my vbasic mmorpg but thats hosted elsewhere anyway. converting my asp browser games to php shouldnt be too bad (dont want to mess with asp chillesoft nor can i spare the cash on that). anyway i hope to be a regular here (thought the name Drake would be taken but im happy to have that) and cya around :P
