I add a line to my /etc/rc.local /sbin/ifconfig eth0 mtu 1352 and reboot open a terminal and run ifconfig it should show new mtu setting ...if not I have failed oops

Recently on another site I reported success with flashing my gigabyte bios using wine and another poster has just said I could have used a linux program....UNRAR to do the same thing. here is the link for those interested. I only have a gigabyte mobo so you may need to check and be cautious of flashing. I did not have to be as my mobo was dual bios. Hi have Mdk 10.1 CE and info command not found I have installed texinfo and gettext......info run as normal or su user fails. I can run man command ok as a normal user. Anyone know what I am missing?

adamw sorry for not being explicit....yes been in mobo and it has a system health check which is ok however the only mobo bios temp output is for the CPU. 2) I can put my hand on the vent for power supply so I am now happy with DragonMage suggesting its a bogus reading. 3) the other thing is I mentioned the 127 degrees is not varying and that should start off cold or ambient and work up to 127 so me thinks you are all right and its a bogus and so I can amend my sensors.conf to ignore. thankyou all for soothing my paranonia.

bvc 2 reasons firstly I had bloat hitting 25000 characters so had to be Ruthless as in the movie ruthless people if you have seen it but as you will see I also culled lots of other stuff such as secret menu entries and grub-install altho works for you I too found the grub in terminal always was more informative ie if I made a typo it tended to produce an error and eg root (hd0,0) .....setup (hd0) gave me an output including the last line of succeeded which has always gave me a warm glow. btw I have counted my last effort but as I moved some stuff back to links I am no longer concerned with bloat (2) A more important cull was I deliberately culled the absolute pathway alternative....I wanted users to fix in their mind that even if they used a splashimage the root way was the way to go absolute kernel (hd0,2) /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda5 ro etc initrd (hd0,2) /boot/initrd.img root way root (hd0,2) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda5 ro etc initrd /boot/initrd.img and you just define root b4 naming the splashimage file cheerio

firstly I have installed w98 and run the gigabyte utility Easytune and it is no wiser so I emailed gigabyte and got a reply that I should not trust a non-Easytune (linux) utility but could not tell me what the answer was????? To those who have replied Thankyou.......of interest to me is the it87 section of sensors.conf that is summary suggests ignore temp3 The reason for my post, is that if easytune and lm-sensors is getting a third reading even if the muliplier/divider is wrong it is still a reading. end of rant

it appears that I cheated, who me? I had not used the correct kernel numbering that I had compiled. I renamed my missing file System.map-269 instead of -2.6.9. 2) instead of cp and rename I used depmod -a and make install then edit my grub so my steps for those interested are mkdir /opt/k and unpack new kernel there eg /opt/k/linux-2.6.9 delete link to /usr/src/linux from the k source add new link.......... ln -s /opt/k/linux-2.6.9 /usr/src/linux cd /opt/k/linuxetc make mrproper make menuconfig (or xconfig) make bzImage; make modules; make modules_install depmod -a make install (make install then attempts to mkinitrd but I have compiled in all I need [i think] so ignore error) check /boot has vmlinuz-2.6.9 and System.map-2.6.9 and config-2.6.9 edit /boot/grub/menu.lst for new kernel and old kernels My kernel is not perfect but it boots proving I do not need initrd.img and can now start to tweak it. thanks for your help

hi I started to compile my own kernel. (Not yet a full success) I amended my grub entry and new kernel needs no initrd image I have a standard 10.1 kernel 2.6.8.1-10 that uses vmlinuz and symbolic links to the real kernel and associated System.map file 2) On first attempt with my compiled 2.6.9 kernel I saw a message that my system map was not found and (on reboot) my map file was missing. So I deleted all symbolic links and amended grub for standard mdk kernel to boot and it works ok Then I added my bzImage and its related system map file but called these bzImage-269 and System.map-269 and grub amended etc 3) On reboot I can see its my new bzImage loading but altho my bzImage file remains in folder /boot the map file is gone on reboot. 4) Anyone know which service is playing with my boot directory?
