    RAR [solved]

unrar is a total bitch. it does work through ark but you have to tell it manually everytime that its a compressed rar file. Little messy but works none the less :)
  3. Right i think that its time for a new laptop and a Powerbook looks like its going to be my choice 1) i would like some exposure to Mac OS 2) its not winblows :P 3) they look soo nice 4) i can use linux still so whats a good distro for them, i know that mandrakesoft have gone to 9 and then someone else has taken over the PPC version of 10 so isnt officially supported, but whats it like does anyone know? I also keep getting told to try Yellow Dog on the mac forum i go on, again anyone does/have used it? I think that im getting suckered into buying a mac cause they look nice like my iPod but still i wont listen till i get one so looks like this choice will happen
  4. my tip, use KDE 3.2 and when you get a little more confident then go for 3.3 cause 3.2 is workin fine for most people

    Help!!

open a new terminal the type su then the root password now you have full system access inside that terminal window as root. If you want to do it through Gnome then just log out and then it gives you a normal login box so put the user name as root then the password and then feel free to edit anything you want :) Just be careful though, other wise the install discs might come back out :o
  10. i do agree with the comments you have all made thats why i like to tell all you lot that have/will help me out that i appriciate you help. I have had the same thing with Windows, helping people and nothing so much as a "thanks its working now" or a "no that still dont work" I think that some people are too proud to say thank you's Rest assured as long as newbies like me remain here, thanks for help will eb given as we are the ones that really do want to learn for our selfs rather than getting someone else to do it
  11. thanks ill try the GUI first though and remember the CLI ;)
  12. ill second that one mate (H) took me about 2 hours to get mine working when i first used RH9! i like to install my programs in /usr/share/ so that everyone can see them if i want all users to see them. Its all about what you want not what the default is. this is from a pdf ive got and might help you as it did me for a while / root directory /opt where most 3rd party progs are kept /etc where most config files are kept /bin essential command binarys/(exe's) /sbin essential system bin /tmp tempory files /lib shared libarys and kernel modules /dev device nodes
